APC and Buhari supporters are responsible for the killings – PDP

Wednesday, 22 August 2018

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday accused President Muhammadu Buhari and his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) as being responsible for the killings across the country.

“It is now abundantly clear to Nigerians that those fomenting crisis, including the bloody clashes and killings in Benue, Taraba, Zamfara, Nassarawa, Plateau, Kaduna, Edo, Borno, Yobe, Enugu, Kogi, Adamawa & other states in Nigeria are sponsored by @APCNigeria, @MBuhari supporters,” PDP alluded in a tweet. The party gave Buhari an ultimatum of 24 hours to arrest the leaders of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association (MACBAN) or be held responsible for their actions.

This is coming against the backdrop of comments made by the coordinator of the association in Benue State, Garus Gololo’s comment in an interview with Punch when he warned Senate President, Bukola Saraki, to resign from office or be forced out by the group.

“We are now tired of Saraki’s style of leadership at the National Assembly. Therefore, we are now warning him to honourably resign his position as president of the Senate or we will force him out”, Gololo opined However, PDP said Gololo’s comments shows that Gololo is speaking for the APC , Buhari and its supporters with the aim of trying to force out the Saraki from office.

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) labeled the threats as “ominous and revealing”. The party also pointed that MACBAN has “always represented the military wing of the APC and the Buhari Presidency.”

“It is incontrovertible that they have now become the fourth arm of government, outside the Executive, Judiciary and the Legislature”. In the time, the national body MACBAN has distanced itself from the careless comments made by Gololo and said it would punish Gololo for making such statement.

In a letter signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina and made available to newsmen today by the Personal Assistant to the president on Media Engagement, Bashir Ahmad, explain that the extension was necessary because the president still has to undergo some tests and receive the results for a series of tests that had been recommended by his doctors.

The letter reads: “The President had planned to return to Abuja this evening (Sunday), but was advised to complete the test cycle before returning. “The notice has since been dispatched to the Senate President, and Speaker, House of Representatives.

It had twice extended his stay previously. The President is seeking a second term in office. His opponents have declared that he is not fit to govern the nation effectively on the account of health challenges but Mr Buhari’s handlers have punctured such saying the President is “just undergoing routine medical checkup”.

Many have asked why Mr. Buhari’s ailments cannot be treated in Nigeria after making huge budgets for the clinic inside Aso Rock villa. Many medical experts have argued that treating the President abroad does not augur well for the image of the country.

Facebook has started internal testing of its dating app

Saturday, 4 August 2018

Two months after announcing the product at its F8 developer conference, Facebook is testing its dating product internally with employees. Independent app researcher Jane Manchun Wong, who regularly uncovers new Facebook features by scouring the source code, found evidence of the product Friday and posted it on Twitter. The company confirmed to The Verge that the product is in testing within the Facebook app but declined to comment further.

“This product is for US Facebook employees who have opted-in to dogfooding Facebook’s new dating product,” a screenshot reads, using slang for employees testing out their own software. “The purpose for this dogfooding is to test the end-to-end product experience for bugs and confusing UI.

This is not meant for dating your coworkers.” Facebook asked employees to use fake data for their dating profiles, and plans to delete all data before the public launch. “Dogfooding this product is completely voluntary and has no impact on your employment,” a screenshot reads, adding that the product is confidential.

It also warns employees that its anti-harassment policies apply to the dating product. Other screenshots show the sign-up flow for Facebook dating, including options to specify your gender, your location, and which genders you’re interested in matching with. Wong was able to fill in her own information but prevented from actually creating the dating profile.

The fact that Facebook Dating is testing internally does not necessarily mean that it will launch to the public. Products are often killed before they are released based on what companies find during testing. Facebook’s launch of a dating service would make it an immediate powerhouse in the market for online romance.
The stock price of Match Group, which owns popular dating apps including OKCupid and Tinder, plunged 17 percent the day Facebook Dating was announced.

As described on stage, Facebook Dating will allow you to create a separate profile for dating. When you and another person using the service like one another’s profiles, you’ll be allowed to contact them. The company also described a feature that would let you make your dating profile visible for people attending the same event as you, in hopes of generating more offline connections. “This is going to be for building real, long-term relationships — not just for hookups,” Mark Zuckerberg said in his announcement

Samsung Reportedly Testing Its First Android Go Phone in Europe And Some Other Countrys

Saturday, 23 June 2018

Samsung was among the first OEMs to utilize the Android operating system after it was unveiled by Google. The company ever since it embraced Android, have always shipped it with a customised UI which was initially known as TouchWiz but now goes by the name Samsung Experience. But right now, there are reports that the company is working on bringing stock Android to its low-end models.

The stock Android is said to come under Google’s Android Go program and the tech giant is reportedly testing an entry-level device in several countries. The device is said to come with the model number SM-J260 and is powered by an unnamed processor that goes by the codenamed Universal7570_Go. The processor could be the Exynos 7570 or a modified version. The entry-level model also packs 1GB of RAM.

The detail specified that the SM-J260 was seen with three different substrates; SM-J260F, SM-J260M and SM-J260G. The model SM-J260F is currently being tested in the UK, Uzbekistan, Caucasus Countries, Germany, Italy, Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan, France, and Poland, while the model number SM-J260M has been spotted in Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Trinidad and Tobago, Peru, Panada, and Paraguay. In addition, the Asian market is not left out as the SM-J260G is reportedly being tested in India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, and Vietnam.

There is no official word about the launch of an Android Go phone from the company but Samsung has been making move to exhibit its presence in the low-end segment of the market. Its effort with the Tizen-powered Z-series has been anything but successful. This could be the company’s game-changer in that regard.

Fifteen Children Killed In Somalia Flooding

Saturday, 9 June 2018

children's fund warns that heavy rains and flooding in Somalia are putting hundreds of thousands of children at high risk of disease and death.

The 230,000 people who have been displaced by floods since April are living in congested, unsanitary conditions that breed disease, according to UNICEF, and about half of that number are children.

"The rains spread diseases that are particularly deadly for malnourished children with exhausted, fragile immune systems," said UNICEF spokesman Christophe Boulierac. "While we have not seen a spike yet, the risk of further outbreaks is high and compounded by flooding."

Acute malnutrition rates among displaced children have exceeded the emergency threshold of 15 percent and have reached as high as 21 percent, UNICEF reports. The agency has treated more than 88,000 severely acutely malnourished children with special life-saving therapeutic feeding this year.

Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Coming Too Soon; A Detailed Report Of What We Are To Expect From Samsung

Already, the first half of 2018 is gone, without a doubt, Samsung’s Galaxy Note 9 is one of the most anticipated phones this year. Rumors are all round the internet and thus, they are all alluring. However, they are just leaks which can practically be false, but we can't stop ourselves from giving you the latest uodates. So if you're hoping to get some more concrete information about the Galaxy Note 9, then you have come to the right place.

According to a tipster from AndroBliz, Samsung has finalized it's Galaxy Note 9 launch date but the question is, what new changes or features are we to expect in the new Samsung Note series? He furthermore said that "Galaxy Note 9 will not have much change. Hence, it'll just be a small adjustment to Note 8". Although this report has not been confirmed by Samsung to be the final design of the upcoming device.

And now, it's another new leak that reads "Samsung Galaxy Note 9 will come with a thinner bottom bezel". The Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus are perhaps the pinnacles so far in the welcome 2018 smartphone trend of reduced bezel size. But based on the new leak from Weibo, it claims that the Galaxy Note 9 bottom bezel is slightly thinner than 6.5mm thick. Although earlier reports had also suggested that the devices would have thinner bezels.

However, the Galaxy Note 9 is expected to have an even bigger display at a massive 6.38-inches. So it looks like a new screen-to-body ratio champion is coming. The picture shown below comes from Ice Universe on Weibo which suggests that the Galaxy Note 9 bottom bezel is slightly thinner than the bezel of the OPPO R15, that is about 6.5mm. In the picture, we can see the bottom bezel size of OPPO R15.

According to previous rumors, the Galaxy Note 9 will not bring little or less difference in the design, or the size of bezels, when compared to its predecessors. However, the bottom bezel will be smaller than the one found in the Galaxy Note 8.

So hold on tight and let's see the wonder that comes with the Galaxy Note 9.

ASUS ROG Phone Is Almost Perfect But Needs This One Thing

Wednesday, 6 June 2018

The ASUS ROG Phone, the fourth in a new generation of gaming-centric Android smartphones, is going to be compared a lot with the Nintendo Switch. And, to a lesser extent, the Nintendo DS. On paper and at first blush, it definitely checks of the right boxes to sing to gamers’ hearts. While we anxiously and excitedly await the time for a more in-depth review, we can already see how the ASUS ROG Phone could easily snatch the mobile gaming crown. That is, if ASUS can implement one feature that’s missing from almost all mobile gaming phones and accessories.

It’s less about the specs

Of course, hardware specs play an important part in the equation. A middling Snapdragon 420 paired with 2 GB of RAM and topped with 720p screen will hardly make for an impressive mobile gaming experience. But given most high-end phones have nearly identical specs, hardware becomes less of a unique selling point. Of course, the higher-binned Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, running at 2.9 GHz instead of the usual 2.8 GHz is a boost to the performance. ASUS also opted for a middle ground between the refresh rates of normal smartphones and souped up 120 Hz of the likes of the Razer Phone to get a better 1 ms pixel response, or so it promises. All of these necessitated a custom kind of cooling system, one that you’d never imagine finding on a smartphone, to prevent incidents of Galaxy Note 7 proportions. There’s no question that the ASUS ROG is built like a beast and looks like one, too, but that’s hardly its most compelling features.

Design smarts

The ASUS ROG is going to look crude, cold, and industrial beside a Galaxy S9 and an iPhone X, but that’s not going to be a problem. The market that ASUS is targeting for this phone love those sharp corners and LED lights. ASUS may have even gone overboard with the latter. But the ASUS ROG’s design isn’t just about how it looks. As they sometimes say in design, form should follow function. If you have ever tried playing on your smartphone while charging it or while using wired headphones, you’ll immediately know the one design flaw that smartphones have when it comes to gaming. Cords get in the way because ports are designed for only a specific orientation only. It’s like the Nintendo Switch’s USB port problem in reverse. Since we’re probably still years away from OTA wireless charging, ASUS implemented a solution that is both straightforward and odd at the same time: have another port on the phone’s side.

This almost common sense solution opens the ROG Phone up to a lot of possibilities. Of course, you can charge while playing but it also allows the phone to be docked in landscape orientation, a more natural position for gaming screens. It also allows the AeroActive Cooler add-on to conveniently provide additional cooling, keep the phone charging, and offer a 3.5 mm jack to also get headphone cords out of the way. Yes, it will be odd to see a slot on the side of your phone when using it like normal, but it’s one of those compromises users will probably be willing to make for the added convenience and functionality.

It’s all about the extras

At the end of the day, though, the ASUS ROG Phone’s biggest strength, and also its potential weakness, are the accessories that truly make it a gaming phone. Through its Republic of Gamers brand, ASUS knows gamers only too well. It knows they love accessories and add-ons that add power to a machine beyond what they initially bought it for. And while most of those add-ons have been around in the market for quite a while now, the way ASUS has positioned them as one big gaming ecosystem is admittedly genius.

The Mobile Desktop Dock is pretty much the Samsung DeX for gaming. In fact, it might exactly be like the Samsung DeX since ASUS hints it could be used for more productive uses as well. Gamevice has been making split controllers even before the Switch made that particular design hot but pairing the ROG Phone with a low-latency WiGig Dock is something very few have thought of doing. We’ve seen dual-screen handhelds (Nintendo DS) and phones (Kyocera Echo, ZTE Axon M), but the TwinView Dock is definitely the most creative we’ve seen so far. It definitely has potential, if ASUS can turn that into reality.

But while these make the ASUS ROG Phone unique, they could also make it common in the near future. These accessories already exist separately and, now that the cat is out of the bag, they can easily be replicated by others.

Control issues

ASUS could still have an edge over those if it manages to implement one thing that, so far, only French OEM Archos has attempted: mapping physical controls to touch gestures. The ASUS ROG definitely has the hardware but, sadly, Android and game developers have a very restricted vision of what mobile gaming can be. To be fair, mobile games have to be designed with touch first in mind. But there has been API for controller support for years now that very few use.

If neither Google nor developers will do the work to enable game controller support for their games, then it might be up to OEMs or even third parties to do the work themselves. It’s not impossible, though the work is probably not that easy, otherwise, it would be that common now. Archos’ GamePads (RIP) had this feature that would let you map the built-in hardware buttons and D-Pad to areas on the screen that correspond to certain actions or UI items. If the ROG Phone’s AirTriggers work the same way, then ASUS is already halfway there.

The same goes for keyboard and mouse control but perhaps to a lesser extent. There are definitely mobile games that would be perfect for these PC input devices but some don’t even accept mouse clicks as taps (I’m looking at you, Shadowrun Returns). Despite advertising some gaming capabilities, Samsung doesn’t seem to be that interested in that aspect of its DeX. Given its game-centric design, the ROG Phone should take that lead.

Wrap-up

The ASUS ROG Phone is just a few days old and yet it’s already generating a lot of buzz. A lot more than the Razer Phone or, embarrassingly, even the Galaxy S9 and probably proportional to that of the Nintendo Switch. With games like PUBG and Fortnite coming to mobile, the profitability of mobile e-sports on the rise, and increasing interest in gaming phones, it’s definitely a perfect time for the ASUS ROG Phone to steal the stage. Hopefully, it will perform just as well in practice.
