“This is one of the biggest attacks in Afghanistan that I have ever seen,” Al Jazeera reporter Qais Azimy said. “It’s a very sad and very bloody day for the people of Kabul.”
Al Jazeera reported that the truck exploded near Zanbaq Square in Kabul’s 10th district, an area populated with government offices and foreign embassies, as well as shops and restaurants.
The New York Times reported that the German Embassy was “extensively damaged,” and an Afghan security guard dispatched to the embassy was killed in the blast.
At the time of publication, no group claimed responsibility for the attack. A spokesman for the Taliban has insisted that the group was not behind the attack.
