Confusion In APC Over Saraki’s Impeachment

the plan of the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to impeach Senate President Abubakar Bukola Saraki may have run into a hitch due to doubt and mistrust among leadership of the party and the APC lawmakers. 

Apart from lack of  a succession plan abosuccessionreplace Saraki if the impeachment ever succeeds, the inability of the party national leadership to come up with a reward system for the APC lawmakers has elicited misgivings among the lawmakers. 

The APC party chairman, Adams Oshiomole, has sought the removal of Saraki after he defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). However, with several marathon meetings with the Senate APC caucus in the last three weeks, nothing concrete has been achieved.

Although, many of the Senators are desirous of obeying the plan of APC Chairman, there has been no common agreement on how to get the mandatory Two Thirds Majority of Members of the Senate as contained in the Constitution if the plan to impeach of the Senate President will succeed. 

The camps have since appeared in the Senate APC caucus with one camp opposing the other on how to go about the impeachment plot, as well as on who succeeds Saraki. In the days ahead, the APC Senators and the national leadership will have to prove their seriousness in impeaching the present leadership of the Senate legally. 

Many APC Senators fear they are just being used to impeach Saraki without giving them an assurance of the party’s ticket to return to the Senate.
